About Me

My name is Sarah Griffith. I am 29 years old. I have been happily married to my high school sweetheart for the last 7 years. We are the best of friends and started dating when I was 14 years old. It’s crazy to think that kind of love still exists but it absolutely does. We have been blessed with one little boy who is our whole world. He is 4 ½ years old.

Professionally, I have my bachelors degree in business, computer and information technology education K-12 and was lucky enough to get a teaching job right out of college. I taught various business subjects to grades 9 - 12. Everyone always said man I could never teach high school kids, but honestly it was a great age group to work with. It was awesome to be able to have some kind of impact on the future they were planning for themselves. While teaching, I was working to complete my masters degree in educational leadership from Penn State. I wanted to become a principal. This past year I accepted a position as the Dean of Students and was responsible for the 12th grade class. While it was a great experience and opportunity, I found myself not loving the path I was on anymore and decided I had to get off.

For the last two and a half years I had also been working part time as a health and fitness Team Beachbody coach. I built my business in the evening hours after my son went to bed each night. I went into this just wanting to help others feel as great as I did, only to be given in return an opportunity of a lifetime. One that allowed me to step away from education and has allowed me to create life by design. While I loved being able to teach and serve children, I was missing my own. I knew the path I was on to be an administrator meant working all summer, long days, lots of stress and would turn me into a mom I didn’t want to become. I decided it was time to take a chance on the opportunity I was given and start spending even more time raising my own kid instead of everyone else's. The coaching opportunity made that decision a lot easier for me. I watched my part time hobby begin to financially support me even more than my full time job in education did. My husband and I decided I needed to be home doing this full time. As bittersweet as this is to say, I won’t be returning back to school this fall.

It’s funny that I became a “coach” because fitness was never really my thing growing up. I was a swimmer in high school but never a hardcore athlete. I still wouldn’t consider myself that. I’m just a mom who realized how important it was to make my own health a priority so I could continue to keep serving my son and set a good example for him. I have had my fair share of issues with my own health and knew that genetics were not on my side. The cards are totally stacked against me when it comes to health issues, so I decided I better start fighting back at a young age and try my best to control the controllable.

At 21 years old I discovered a lump behind my right breast. All signs pointed to hormones and my age but I pressed the issues and insisted it be removed. While the doctors kept telling me was a fibroadenoma was actually a borderline malignant phyllodes tumor. I had three surgeries in three short weeks to go in and get clear margins. There were two partial mastectomies total. It’s not been an issue since, but it was a scare early on that gave me clues that I needed to trust my gut when it came to my own health.

Two years after having our son was when I begin to incorporate exercise and clean eating into my life. I was tired of never having time for me or my own health. I was stressed, tired and running on too many lattes to get me thru. It was also when we began to try to have a second child. Two and a half years later I am much healthier and more fit, however, I am still struggling with infertility issues. You can read more about that story here if you are interested.

In the process of figuring out what was going on with my fertility, we begin to learn that my health wasn’t so “hot” after all. The thyroid is always the first thing they check when they are studying your fertility and mine was off the charts too high. Later we discovered it was Hashimoto's disease which brought along with it a whole new set of hurdles to overcome. I have found that going gluten free, exercising daily and eating clean has helped tremendously.

I have come along way, but I still have a ways to go. The struggles have made me stronger, wiser and more patient with the curve balls life has given me. I have learned that your health is the most important resource you have and without it you don’t have much.

I look forward to sharing tips with all of you to help you feel a little better and be a bit more fit than you are today. The change didn’t happen overnight for me. It never does, but with a little bit of effort you will surprise yourself how much you can accomplish.

I look forward to interacting with all of you!
